Thirty-day national rolling search trends for cataract, glaucoma, and LASIK remained constant this week but state-by-state differences in consumer behavior are beginning to emerge.

  • Cataract-related search remained at historic lows. April cataract related searches fell by 50% compared to March and are off by 70% when compared to February. (Chart 1)
  • California is an example of the differences in how individual states are trending. California search trends are uniformly lower than the nation across our measured indices. So while LASIK buying intent searches (“How much does LASIK cost?”) are up by 74% in April versus March in California, this same search question volume is up by 131% nationally. (Chart 2)
  • Consumer elective search activity for LASIK look-alikes such as microdermabrasion is beginning to trend upward at significant rates versus March as well. These trends point to opportunity for smart practices and companies who can speak to the consumer in the right voice, in the right place, and at the right time.
