Mentor was founded in 1969 and has a long, proud history as a global leader in breast aesthetics. For over 30 years, the company has developed, manufactured, and marketed innovative, science-based products for surgical and non-surgical medical procedures that allow breast surgery patients to improve their quality of life.

Today, Mentor is part of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies headquartered in Irvine, operating in more than 117 countries, and continues to be the #1 brand globally[i] in breast aesthetics. The company has supported nearly seven million women with Mentor® Breast Implants as part of their breast augmentation and breast reconstruction journeys.

Nearly 400,000 women undergo breast implant surgeries every year in the U.S., with about 75% of these women choosing to augment their breasts and about 25% of these women electing to have breast reconstruction surgery[ii]. To address the needs of this diverse population of women electing to undergo breast surgery, Mentor offers a full portfolio of silicone gel-filled and saline-filled round and shaped breast implants.

“We know this is an incredibly personal decision, and each patient’s preferences and goals are unique,” said Joe Matton, Director of Global Strategic Marketing for Mentor. “That means providing surgeons with a wide range of sizes and profiles to enhance their ability to individualize a patient’s results.”

Beyond just providing products, Mentor is committed to supporting women throughout their breast surgery journey. Mentor teams around the world have launched educational and empowerment campaigns and partnered with physician, patient and community organizations to generate more awareness and improve the standard of care, outcomes and quality of life for breast implant patients. The company is also focused on driving meaningful change in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion by partnering with organizations focused on reducing healthcare disparities among patients and increasing the diversity of under-represented minorities in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Medical aesthetics is a highly competitive and dynamic industry, and patient requirements and preferences are constantly changing. One of the driving forces behind Mentor’s success has been the company’s commitment to approaching innovation through the lens of the patient believing that new product innovations should be driven, first and foremost, by what patients need.

But that innovation doesn’t need to originate within Mentor – great ideas can come from anywhere, even from your own backyard. Mentor joined Octane OC earlier this year and was an influential voice during the “Unmet Needs in Medical Aesthetics” session at the 2nd Annual Aesthetics Tech Summit.

“This truly was a unique event – bringing together physicians, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and investors for a focused and collaborative discussion about key trends and unmet clinical needs in medical aesthetics,” said Matton. “The new business opportunities and groundbreaking technologies coming out of this event will play a significant role in shaping the future of our industry.”

In addition to participating in panel discussions, Mentor executives observed the LaunchPad presentations and offered multi-disciplinary advice to this next generation of aesthetics innovators and entrepreneurs.

Mentor brings a leadership team comprised of top experts in their field with extensive experience in R&D, product development and commercialization, as well as a shared passion for helping innovators transform their early technologies into products that can change lives.

Mentor is excited to be actively involved with Octane OC and provide access to world-class expertise, talent and resources to ignite thriving collaborations within the SoCal ecosystem that deliver the greatest value to patients around the world.
