Location! Location! Location! Southern California is the ideal place to start a business for a multitude of reasons, but most importantly we have a great location. No matter where you choose to live (LA, OC, SD), our weather is great and we are in close proximity to the beach and a major airport. With that said, each area of the Southern California region focuses on different types of technology.
Los Angeles: This is the hub for technology and entertainment. With the boom of Silicon Beach and its proximity to LAX, this is a great destination to start your company. Successful companies that have started and grown in Los Angeles include Snap, Inc, Zwift and Tinder, to name a few.
Orange County: Situated between Los Angeles and San Diego, Orange County is central Southern California. OC has more ophthalmology companies and med device headquarters than anywhere in Southern California, and even the country.
San Diego: As the area continues to grow, it is becoming an even bigger hotbed for biotech companies. It, too, has close proximity to a beach and airport, making it another ideal place to grow your biotech startup.
Southern California is the top area for Med Device Companies. With companies such as Edwards Lifesciences, Medtronic and Allergan, that have headquarters in Southern California, the possibility to create and drive innovation from these driving forces is unstoppable. Ophthalmology plays a key role in Orange County, in particular with companies such as Johnson & Johnson Vision, Alcon and Aerie Pharmaceuticals. It is one of the key economic drivers in Southern California.
Support in the SoCal Ecosystem! As Southern California continues to grow, this is a great time to support the Southern California ecosystem. Southern California is not only a great place to start and grow a company because of its lively tech and med tech scene throughout the region, but it’s also less expensive than the Bay Area. We are still seeing companies raise money, grow and scale right here and want to continue that upward momentum! See our events page to get connected with the SoCal tech and medtech ecosystems!
